The case of France Telecom has not left the Unions of Mauritius Telecom (MT) indifferent. Because of the series of suicide in France, 24 to this day, employees of MT are also affected by stress as a result of the new conditions of works which have incited the Mauritius Telecom Employees Association (MTEA) to ask for the abolition of the Performance Management Systems (PMS).
This system was put in place last year to promote efficiency and production.
In a letter dated 1st October 2009, the management invited to organize a meeting to discuss this possibility. The letter is signed jointly by Yusuff Jaddoo,Vice-President of the Syndicate and A.H. Malleck Amode, the negotiator, this correspondence calls for an honest and frank discussion about the abolition of the PMS.
In fact the Union believes that such a system is susceptible to drive MT employees to the same occurrence, which their colleagues and other personnel of France Telecom had done recently. “It could be a carbon copy occurrence” says Raj Rughoonath, President of the MTEA.
