News Articles - Rodrigues Island
As part of the bicentenary of the capture of Rodrigues by the British, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Sir Aneerood Jugnauth will participate in some activities of commemoration to mark that event very soon. A monument will be inaugurated and a scene of soldiers in uniforms landing in Rodrigues will be played and dramatized to mark its history.
On this occasion a book entitled: “Rodrigues 1809-2009, A Bicentennial Perspective” will be launched. This is how we learn that this small island Rodrigues has played a primordial role in its conflict against the British for the French for the control of Mascareignes on the road to India.
